General Notes on Travel in Nigeria
Communication: You can be reached by mobile phone, so can make an arrangement with your friends and family for your entire staying in Nigeria. Telephone service is expensive in Nigeria, however, it advisable that you arrange to have people call you, or take advantage of the internet telephone services according to the area you visit either in Lagos, Osogbo, Benin or some part of south-east and Abuja. To make a call to the United States through the Voice Over Internet Protocol normally costs 50 nairas a minute, while phone calls within Nigeria cost 40 nairas per minute. Internet service is available in cafes for $2-5 per hour.
Money: At this writing, one dollar is equal to 350 nairas. The currency floats, and you can change dollars either at bureaux de change or at occasional informal currency markets.
You are advised not to use credit cards in Nigeria. You should bring enough cash for all of your need.
